AEI at Penn, the Penn Wharton Public Policy Initiative, Penn Government and Politics Association, College Republicans and the Federalist Society at Penn Law were pleased to host Dr. Arthur Brooks for a discussion in September on what individuals can do to break through the gridlock of political polarization. Dr. Brooks is a social scientist, best-selling author and president of the American Enterprise Institute, a top-ranked think tank in TTCSP’s 2015 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report. Approximately 200 students crowded into Steinberg-Dietrich Hall to hear Dr. Brooks discuss the importance of injecting warm-heartedness, graciousness and gratitude in our current political climate. Dr. Brooks led an engaging discussion by emphasizing the necessity to make every American feel needed and answered students’ questions on how to productively engage in policy debates with people whom with they disagree.
Benjamin Fogel, an alumnus of TTCSP, is the chair of AEI at Penn, or the AEI Executive Council. From May 2013 to January 2014, Benjamin Fogel served as the Research and Data Coordinator for TTCSP and worked on the 2013 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report. He was also the project lead for think tanks in Oceania. His experience at TTCSP led him to join AEI’s Summer Honors Program in 2015 and he has since been the chair of their Council at Penn. AEI at Penn partners with other student groups and campus organization to bring in AEI scholars for lectures, debates, reading groups and small discussions. AEI scholars who have visited Penn over the past year included Charles Murray, Henry Olsen, Stan Veuger and Michael Auslin. Dr. McGann has partnered with AEI at Penn in the past as a featured speaker and guest. AEI was also featured in the 2015 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report as a think tank innovation case study (page 17).
